Deposits Insured In Full.

By banking with Berkshire Bank, you'll enjoy the protection and peace of mind that comes from total deposit insurance. We are a member of both the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), which insures depositors up to $100,000 and as a Massachusetts chartered savings bank, we are also members of the Depositors Insurance Fund (DIF), which insures all deposits and interest not covered by the FDIC, without limit, without exception. You are guaranteed total protection for all of your money. In fact, no depositor in a Massachusetts chartered savings bank has ever lost a single penny of deposits or interest since the DIF was established in 1934.

Federal Deposit Insurance Fund (FDIC)

The FDIC was created by Congress in 1933 and protects depositors' funds in the event of the financial failure of their bank or savings institution. FDIC also does not insure Non-Deposit Investment products (such as Stocks, Mutual Funds, and Annuities) that may be sold at a bank or savings institution.

FDIC-Insured Accounts

  • Checking Accounts (including money market deposit accounts)
  • Savings Accounts (including passbook accounts)
  • Certificates of Deposit
  • Retirement Accounts (consisting of cash on deposit at a bank or thrift)
Not FDIC-Insured Accounts
  • Investments in mutual funds (stock, bond or money market mutual funds), whether purchased from a bank, brokerage or dealer
  • Annuities (underwritten by insurance companies, but sold at some banks)
Depositors Insurance Fund (DIF)
The Depositors Insurance Fund (DIF) is a private, industry-sponsored excess deposit insurance company. It insures all deposits above the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation's (FDIC) $100,000 per depositor limit in 73 Massachusetts chartered savings banks. All banks that are members of the DIF are also members of the FDIC. DIF deposit insurance is backed solely by its own assets. Neither the Commonwealth of Massachusetts nor the U.S. Government has any liability for the obligations of the DIF.
