Can I start repairs on my own?

 

You must make sure that your property is protected from any further loss.  Please take whatever measures you deem necessary to protect your property from further damage and save any receipts for your expenses.  You should take photos of the damage prior to starting your clean up or repairs and inventory any damaged property.

 

Do not begin repair work, other than what is necessary to avoid further damage and protect your property.  The insurance company has the right to inspect the damage and failing to allow them to do so could jeopardize your claim.

 

My basement is full of water from a recent rain storm.  What do I do?

 

Homeowners policies exclude water damage resulting from flood, surface water, and the overflow of a body of water.  These policies also exclude water which backs up through sewers or drains or which overflows from a sump pump.  Ask your representative today to discuss a flood policy and sewer endorsements.

 

During a severe windstorm a tree fell in my backyard.  Does insurance cover this?

 

Standard homeowners policies pay up to $500 for removal of the debris, providing it falls on a covered structure.  Some policies remove the exclusion of being on a covered structure and will pay $500 for trees on your property.  Ask your representative about your particular coverage.

 

Am I entitled to a rental vehicle?

 

If you are not sure if you have rental reimbursement, please inquire with our office or the adjuster before you rent a vehicle.  There are limits, both under your policy, as well as the other party's insurance company (if you are seeking a rental from them).  To avoid any unexpected expenses, please ask about these limits.

 

Does my deductible apply?

 

The Deductible Waiver only applies when the other vehicle involved in an accident is 100% at fault.  It is important to get enough information on the other vehicle for your insurance company to confirm liability.  Your deductible may be applied initially and when liability is confirmed, the insurance company will reimburse the deductible to you.
