About Us

Corporate Responsibility

Building stronger communities requires a better approach to banking. That's why where you bank matters.

Operating responsibly, ethically,  and sustainably is not just an expectation of our stakeholders; it’s the mandate for operating a high-performing business. We’re working to create a positive impact on the people, places and causes you care about most.

Transparency. Responsibility. Accountability.

We’re committed to ensuring a more sustainable future — and transparently outlining all that we’re doing to help achieve that goal and measure our progress.

Our Sustainability Report details all that Berkshire is doing to be a responsible and sustainable bank while elevating its client experience and community impact.

Sustainable Finance

Berkshire is the first publicly traded community bank holding company with under $150 billion in assets in the United States to issue a Sustainability Bond. Proceeds from the $100 million bond supported affordable housing, workforce housing, green building and financial access and inclusion projects in communities across New England and New York.

Proceeds from the bond were allocated consistent with the Berkshire Sustainable Financing Framework, which guides our green, social and sustainable financing activities. The Framework was independently verified by Sustainalytics for its environmental and social credentials.

Environmental Impact

We’re supporting our clients and communities while managing our own impacts to protect our environment, natural resources, and address climate change. Ultimately, we’re working to create a cleaner, greener economy for everyone.

We invite you to learn more about all that Berkshire and our clients are doing to be more sustainable, reduce emissions and deliver on our environmental goals in our most recent Sustainability Report and in Berkshire’s Responsible & Sustainable Business Policy.

Robust Corporate Governance

For more than 175 years, Berkshire has operated with the highest ethical standards and maintained a robust corporate governance framework. We regularly engage with our stakeholders, maintain a comprehensive board and management committee structure as well as a matrix of policies and procedures that govern all aspects of our operations. This includes dedicated board and management committees and our Responsible and Sustainable Business Policy.

We invite you to learn more about all that we are doing to operate with integrity, protect our stakeholders, mitigate environmental and social risks and empower the financial potential of our communities in our most recent Sustainability Report, Corporate Governance website and Responsible & Sustainable Business Policy.
